As for their horses, they are not covered, but but only have the bridles furished with chainettes & false reins of the same, especially since being ordered to be at the head of the army for long stretches, to discover & give harass to the enemy, it would not be appropriate for them to be heavily armed or to masters them as well. These light horses are sent out by Dizaines & Centaines. The Captains are young Gentlemen, bold & adventurous sent by the Senate As for the Master of Camp & Captain of a thousand horses, they are persons of authority & who have already given sufficient proof of their valor & good conduct in all combats, ruses & stratagems of war: If the necessity requires it, they sometimes set foot on the ground & fight in the same way as the foot soldiers covered with their shields.
