Also that their masters are oblidged if it is
possible to mount them on the rump & favor their
trek in the plains, as also these said
soldiers do towards them when they find themselves
in lands of woods, mountains, marshes & rivers,
straits & narrow passages.
Concerning the mounted arquebusiers, they are not
used, for this they use the light horses
& are much better, especially since
they are better mounted & armed
to fight in all manner.

Of the pay of the men of war
CHAP. V.
We will begin with the foot
soldiers, the pikemen & musketeers
each recieving three escus
per month; the arquebusiers, two &
a half; the Dizeniers, four; the Captain,
thirty; His Lieutenant twenty: The Ensign,
fifteen; & each of the Sergeants, eight; The
Millenier, or Camp Master, one hundred, in
addition to his wages & honest allowances which
are paid to them every eight days should
they wish, each Millenier having a clerk of the Grand
Treasurer in his quater always ready
