floors furnished with a hundred beds with windows overlooking the gardens. One is for the nobility & people of quality having apartments & enclosures between the beds which are much nicer & better enclosed than the others, each one having a comfortable room, under which small streams pass which carry away the filth. The other side is for the exercise masters, instrument players, grooms & other servants at the Academy. On one side of the said hospital are large, well-paved & painted rooms where the patients pass the time playing several kinds of small games, such as on a billiards table, galet,[1] & musical instruments; & also eating when they begin to feel better. Opposite these rooms are housed the Attendants, with twenty-four comforters of the sick[2] to look after the patients. On the third side are the kitchens, wine cellar, bakery, butchery, & other such offices. On the fourth floor are the stores of grains,[3] wines, fruits, & also the rooms & halls of the Doctors & their assistants, with the shops & large rooms for storing fruits, herbs & roots, & all other kinds |
