166                    History of the Kingdom

truth that he had preached, that therefore it was to him to whom they should render infinite blessings and not to him who was only a poor sinner, that it was necessary to convert from now on from his bad life weighed and believe in him, being all that he desired of us for so many signal blessings that we receive daily from him.
      Immediately he was led with applause to a beautiful residence accompanied by the greatest of the city, where he was not only caressed and honored, but almost adored.
      The Senate seeing the Christian doctrine verified by miracles, assembles at the same hour and decrees that the service of idols should be left to embrace that of the true God, but that first this great personage should go to preach in all the capital cities of the Kingdom after having remained one month in that place, so that all the peoples of their obedience would not think that it was not generosity and constancy which had brought them to this new Religion, but that they themselves by means of preaching and miracles, would be persuaded to desire it and require it as necessary for their salvation.
      The month completed, he is sent with two of the Senators to all the capital cities
