The second being hope of gain would invite the greats to the risk of attempting against the King & the state, where the money being thus guarded by all the capital cities if a Province were to revolt, or some traitor to occupy the city, the loss would not be so great, especially since all the rest of the treasures would remain whole in the other cities to help recover what would be alienated.

       BEFORE I leave this treatise on
finances, it seemed good to me to speak of
the manner of traveling in this Kingdom, &
