                         CHAP. IV.

      Just as this holy man Byrachil (column of self and piety) had judged that order was very necessary and suitable to the Church of God, he also judged that the ornaments and Ecclesiastical habits would bring respect and dignity to it. For although knowledge and elegance are equal in a poor and miserable man badly dressed, and in a rich man adorned with all his precious vestments, coming to harangue is much better received and listened to, than the poor and badly dressed.
      This was what caused him to want all the Bishops and all the Clergy to be not only distinguished from the common people by knowledge and good life, but also by the habits,
