Pastors and Curates.
      The Schoolboys, and those who began to understand the rudiments of the faith, were sent to the Bishops to assist them in divine services, and to finish having them instructed by the Doctors Theologians who read in each Bishopric, to be sent after the examination of their life and doctrine, to the parishes, when the Priests of these would come to die, just as after the death of a Bishop, the Council which assembles every year in Sangil at the feasts of May, elects from the most learned Archpriests or Priests who are in the Kingdom to succeed in the place of the deceased.
      The scholars are fifty in number, being fed, clothed and maintained with the necessary things, by the Bishop, to whom for this purpose is given from the public two hundred pounds for each of them; They have a superior Priest over each ten, a learned man and of good life, as much to have regard to their studies, as to their morals, until they are provided or married. For marriage, according to the divine ordinance, is indifferent to them.
      As for the Curates, they are only assisted by their Vicars, unless the city or
