with gold embroidery with the King's coat of arms speckled with spoken & written declarations, to indicate that they are Messengers & Spokesmen of his Majesty. This is followed by twelve Clerks dressed in scarlet, namely four of the Chancellor, four of the Treasurer & four of the Secretary, all with their marks, of seals, quills & of the mint, of which they are the administrators. Next follows the Chancellor, the Secretary & the Treasurer, all in one rank, each covered with a robe of purple crimson velvet embroidered with gold, the bottom of which is also spotted with marks of their profession, their hats are of the same velvet embroidery with gold cords. As they pass by, come two young men dressed in long robes of white satin embroidered with gold, one of whom holds a naked sword in one hand, & the other scales of silver gilt: The first signifies the rigor of justice, the other, equality. They have a white veil in front of their eyes to signify that in this Kingdom there is no exception for anyone.[1] Afterward, follow three young pages magnificently dressed in purple velvet with embroidery, one of whom bears the sword & the headdress |
