the place is distant, he goes on horseback, & also the whole Senate & Council of the States with the other Officers. If the King goes hunting or does other exercises & promenades, no order is kept, but everyone goes pell-mell, accompanying him in all sorts of discussions & pleasant encounters, giving himself all the pleasure that he can find. Of the order held at the King's house & of the ordinary expense of him & his officers: CHAP. VII. Even though this great Prince does not dispose of the finances according to his will because of the inconveniences that could arise from it, depending on them, like many others in vain feasts & extravagances, such be it that if the public gives him a hundred thousand escus from the state, he can keep a very honorable house, even magnificent & sumptuous. His table is long enough to hold thirty people, served three courses & no more, part of large meats & part of small ones so that they are more easily replenished |
