CHAP. VIII
On the edge of the port, & at the sight of
the great square, is the royal palace, which
contains about five hundred paces in
circuit, being perfectly squared & of a
Corinthian order, with pilasters that go from
the top to the bottom, although they are of
three stories: In as much as the large rooms
are of much more sumptuous material,
are much more suitable than the small ones,
especially as the large ones appear from near
as from afar, very pleasing to the sight, where
those small divided and delicate are only
pleasant up close, and always have something
small, however richly worked they may be.
The windows are adorned according to what
that order requires, with cornices, pediments &
modillions. As for the
porticoes, there are
four,
namely in the middle of each facade, supported
by four large columns, which
