Each one arriving in the room sits on the first bench, which is curved in a crescent, half to the far, half to the left of the Royal seat. The King also places himself in his tribunal, wearing the royal robe & crown on the head. In front of his Majesty there is a table covered with green velvet cloth, with paper & a writing desk, in order to record the opinions of each, or some noteworthy sentence. Below this table there is a seat with another table where are seated the Chancellor, the Secretary, & the Treasurer dressed in their long robes: Below their feet is the Registrar, with two clerks to record all the acts. On the second & third benches below the Senators are seated the deputies of the provinces; on all the other steps of the semicircle leading down from the six steps & through the middle of the room is all the nobility & youth of the Academy when it deals with common matters, like the finance |
