Of the choice in election of the Judges who are sent to the Provinces.

CHAP. XI.

       The matter to which more regard was paid after the creation of the King and of the great Magistrates, was to choose all the most learned persons, both in Philosophy & in Jurisprudence, remarkable for their sincerity, piety & integrity of life, avoidance of avarice & lovers of the public weal.
       Of all this cast, only the most capable were elected to be Presidents; Others to be Councilors; Others to serve as Prosecutors & Advocates to the parties.
       This being done, all the names were placed by equal ballads of those who are to preside, in one of the three chests made for this purpose; those of Counselors in the second: & those of Advocates & Solicitors in the third.
       The day having come that the Magistrates were to be sent to the Provinces: All the above mentioned Appearing before the King & his council,
