on the spot copies to the parties, without receiving any salary for them, & also six Sergeants to execute the mandates, who are dressed in blue with red hats; to which is attached an image of the King in silver gilt, & another hanging from the collar with a cord of crimson silk so that by such a remark, no one will be forced to apologize for having offended them. All these Magistrates being thus drawn by lot, a superb demonstration is made by the city where all the Deputies of each Province, with their President at their right hand & the counselors & Advocates in turn, walk two by two, having the standard of their Province displayed before them, going like this all together to the Amphitheater, where there are several kinds of games, combats, wrestling, hunts of lions, bears, tigers, bulls, & other furious beasts, with dances & leaps, of marvelous agility & dexterity: Which being continued for six days & as many public feasts, at which they are magnificently served, the King and his Senate continually attending, each one goes to the place where they were ordained, having power and authority, such as we will say hereafter, without them being able to employ more than two servants each, |
