to the Provinces, elects six score Receivers General Treasuries over the finances who reside in each capital city of the Provinces, as well as the other Magistrates with two clerks & ten Sergeants, both for the guard of the said finances, & to constrain, execute, or imprison the farmers, when they do not pay at the half-yearly terms   These Treasurers are well-known Gentlemen who have passed with laudable reputations among most of the lesser offices, well-understood in the law & customs of the Kingdom. They are dressed in robes of blue velvet dotted with figures of the currency in gold and silver embroidery with the Royal arms, the hat & slippers are of the same material:   The clerks have only sarge[1], dotted with the same marks without gold or silver.   The sergeants are dressed in the same color, but wearing a small image of the King of gilded silver on the collar, armed with halberds, swords & poniard[2], like those of the President.   There is also a Registar with two clerks dressed in sarge of similar color, dotted with quills & figures of the currency in silk embroidery, to record both the receiving |
