64                    History of the Kingdom

       he is executed by his Dizenier, who in this case has all power, taking only five sols for execution, and if there is rebellion, or he says an outrageous word against the Council and his Majesty, he is punished by forfeit, or corporal punishment.
       The year being over, the Treasurers bring the accounts of the deposit & the receipt before the President & Councilors, with the Royal mandates, which seen, calculated & verified, the minutes of the accounts are placed in the Registry of the Treasury, & the copy taken to the chamber of accounts of the Royal city, where all are put in good order according to the years having the recourse to them when it pleases the Senate.
       The rest of the money from the year's receipts is put aside in the palace of the Coffers of savings, of which ten of the principal cities each have a different key, as do the Treasurer and the President who are in charge, so that there is no way of touching it unless all are together, and this with the express mandate of the Senate. For this fund is reserved for the extreme necessities of the State, it having seemed expedient to this prudent Senate that all finances should be carried to the Capital city of the Kingdom, for two principal reasons.
