8                   History of the Kingdom

more descending from the aforesaid mountains, which have no more than six score leagues of course, but are much deeper & wider than the others, coming to fall precisely at the brim of the gulf six leagues off the coast of Sangil; One is called Nochi, & the other Lauris. Several other beautiful rivers discharge into these which make this region the most pleasant & fertile in the Kingdom,
      In addition, there is a large lake, some twenty leagues from Sangil, containing about fifty leagues in circuit, bounded on one side by high mountains & on the other by small green & fertile hills with a number of meadows interspersed with various clear & crystal channels. Moreover, it contains several magnificently beautiful Islands that are to the delight & contentment of the King, & the nobles of the Court.
      There is another large lake which contains about four score & fifteen leagues in circumference between the gulf & Alagir, some forty-five leagues from Sangil, which discharges a large quantity of water. Marvelous things are seen in this lake, & it empties through three channels into the Gulf & the Alagir: It also creates several large islands; its banks are interspersed by certain intervals creating openings of meadows, mountains
