columns all in one piece, which are placed in a row, with their pilasters, capitals, cornices & pediments, & within the intervals of each four columns, which are two toises[1] wide and four high, there are two large niches, in which are placed the statues of Mars and Minerva, and on the pediments, those of Piety and Justice.
       In the middle of the frontispiece,[2] there is a large table of black marble, where are written in letters of gilded bronze, elegant verses in praise of the Academy & its founders, & the time at which it was built.
       Next to this forefront, outside the walls, there are two pavilions with a terrace which joins them to each other, in which are lodged the Gentlemen correctors[3] & governors of the Academy, after which there are two other buildings, where there are several chambers to lodge the Regents, Doctors, & Masters of the exercises, such as shooters of arms, dancers,[4] vaulters,[5] jumpers who go on the rope,[6 ] together with the musicians, & players of instruments, such as drummers, fifers, oboes, bagpipers, violins, &c. Afterwards they leave by a large pathway twenty feet wide all around the walls, and another

4. Baladin: "m. A common dauncer of galliards, and other stirring, or lively Ayres. [Cosgrove]
5. Voltiger: To vault,or tumble, also,to curuel, or manage in a (narrow) circle. [Cotgrove]
6. "sauteurs qui vont sur la corde",translates to, "jumpers who go on the rope". Possibly a tight rope walker?
