of the same width corresponding to this large
gate, stretching as far as the eye can
see.
       On both sides of this large road are enclosed in a square two cemeteries of eight hundred feet around, each having a wall of cut stone with accoudoir[1] of two foot thick, & three & a half high, with four gates, or entrances in the middle of the courtines[2], where are engraved on large tablets of black marble, verses in praise of those in general, who persisted until the end in living and dying virtuously, for the glory of God, service of the King & the Fatherland.
       It is in this place where all the great people are buried, to whom the public wanted to erect tombs & statues for their merits, loyalty & great services, so that the youth regularly seeing these flatteries of honor & virtue before their eyes, are pushed by a generous emulation to do well during their life, to perpetuate their name after their death with such honorable memorials.
       Besides these buildings there are two more most necessary, one of the barn and riding stables, the other of the hospital or infirmary, to medicate the sick of the Academy, both
