       As for the Centeniers, Lieutenants, Sergeants & Dizeniers, they get no salary, except the honor of being leaders, & exempt from all charges & contributions during their lifetime, if they behave as they should.
       The leaders of dix mille report to the Centmillenier, who is a great person, most advanced, prudent, and of singular valor, also sent from the Court, making his residence in the capital city of the Province. This one receives the mandates from the King, through the hands of the Viceroy or President. He receives a thousand escus salary, & is courtly dressed in a mandilla, or coat of arms of crimson velvet, embroidered with figures of swords & cudgels intermingled with the Royal arms. His hat is also of crimson velvet, trimmed with a gold cord topped with a large crimson & white plume, which hangs partly behind, & partly rises in front, having in the middle a bouquet of egrets, the sword and the gilded dagger, the clothing is such as pleases him: But ordinarily it is of velvet and satin of the same color.
       Wherever he proceeds, he is accompanied by ten young Gentlemen whom the Senate gives him, fresh from the Academy, so that they may
