& that he assured me that I could only be but greatly
edified; I told him that it would be to my liking, having
heard that there was neither Kingdom nor Christian
in these parts of the South. On the appointed day,
we did not fail to go & visit this Ambassador, whom
we found as affable, honest & courteous
towards us as if we had been his equal, conversing
on several & diverse matters on Europe, & principally
of the Kingdom of France, & seeing that I answered
him quite pertinently on several questions that he
asked of me finally he inquired of the Italian of what
nation I was, & if I was not French. The Italian
having assured him of this, told me that he was very pleased to learn the particulars
of the origin & actions of these ancient valiant men,
whose fame still resounds to this day throughout all the
Orient.
So that there are no people who do not hold them
in great esteem & admiration. I told him at once that I
hoped not only to satisfy him in this, but still further
to give him the map & description of the French
Kingdom, & to talk to him on the laws, morals & good
customs of the people who live there, provided that he
would also be pleased to do the same, not concealing from
me anything that would concern the great & excellent
Kingdom of Antangil from which he came. He promised
me to do so. Thus every day the Italian & I went
there at the opportune times. Whereafter, having told
him all that I knew about those regions, & having
