satisfied his curiosity according to my power, he too spoke to me at length about the origin of the said Kingdom of Antangil, as well as the description of the Provinces, of the rare things therein, of the civil and military police, of the nurturing of the youth, & some principal points of the Religion & formalities thereof. Which having understood so well by way of this Renuchio, I put it into memoirs on my return as I present it to your Excellencies, & if not with such style & ornament as such so lofty & excellent subject deserves; Excuse the liability of my memory, which at this time has been unable to represent anything further, & also that those who make a profession of arms are not ordinarily such delicate & excellent writers.[1] Well I can assure you that this discourse is reported with such truth & sincerity as I learned it from this Ambassador. If it happens then that your Excellencies receive some pleasure & utility from it, I will have infinite contentment, as one who desires nothing so much in the world as the happy progress & advancement of your most lofty & heroic designs, & in this assurance I desire to remain forever,

                  LORDS,

      Your most–humble & affectionate servant.
